Daniel A. Schlanger

Daniel A. Schlanger is a consumer lawyer and managing partner at The Financial Justice Initiative whose practice focuses on protecting individuals from unfair and deceptive business practices. He handles consumer protection litigation, class actions, debt collection defense, credit reporting disputes, identity theft, and related claims. He has been certified as class counsel in cases involving debt buyers, collection law firms, allegedly deceptive collection practices, usury, and consumer lending disputes.

Daniel earned his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School and received the Dean’s Award for Community Leadership. He earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from Carleton College. After law school, he served as a law clerk to Judge R. Lanier Anderson III of the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Daniel began his consumer protection career with the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, where he worked in the consumer law unit. He later entered private practice and became a partner at Schlanger Law Group, LLP. His case experience includes class actions involving debt collection practices and automobile financing. He has further represented consumers in RICO litigation and served on a plaintiffs’ executive committee in product-related litigation. He regularly presents on the FDCPA, auto fraud, usury, and collection defense.

Daniel A. Schlanger is admitted to practice in New York and before several federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He received the New York State Bar Association President’s Award for Individual Pro Bono Work and the Jim Gardner Business Ethics Award. He was further selected to the New York Metro Rising Stars list for multiple years. His career reflects a sustained focus on consumer rights, credit disputes, class litigation, and protection from abusive financial practices.
