About

Colleen Thomas brings decades of legal experience to clients facing family and financial disputes in Illinois. Her practice centers on divorce, mediation, and family law, supported by a background in civil litigation, appeals, and bankruptcy. That broad foundation helps her address cases where household issues and money concerns often overlap.

Colleen earned her Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University, where she served as the Assistant Managing Editor of the Law Review. While in law school, she also received recognition for her work in the International Moot Court Competition. Her academic training gave her strong research, writing, advocacy, and case analysis skills.

Colleen built practical experience early by working as a law clerk in the Kane County Judges’ Office and at a prestigious litigation firm in the city of Chicago. After passing the Bar in 1994, she handled civil litigation and appeals, then opened Thomas Law Office in 1996 to serve clients directly.

Colleen uses her experience in civil law and bankruptcy to guide people through family matters that involve both legal and financial pressure. She works to make complicated issues easier to understand, helping clients move through disputes with clear advice, thoughtful preparation, and steady representation during difficult times and important decisions.

Colleen has also stayed active in service and mentoring through the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), the Dundee Township Rotary Club, and Rotary Interact Club programs. She has supported youth through Dundee-Crown High School activities, including the Internship program, Mock Trial team, Job Fair, and Cooperative Education Program for local students.

Colleen has earned recognition for service, including the Rotary Club Award of Excellence, 2000-2001, and the Rotary Club Distinguished Service Award, 1998-1999. Her Bar admissions include the Illinois State Bar, 1994, Illinois Federal Trial Bar, 1994, U.S. Supreme Court, 2004, and Kane County Bar, 1994, in Illinois.

Colleen Thomas continues to offer clients a balanced perspective shaped by years of courtroom work, appellate matters, and community involvement. Her background allows her to approach family law with practical judgment and careful attention, helping individuals navigate change, protect their interests, and work toward sound outcomes in challenging legal situations.
