About
Cody Cofer is a partner at Cofer Luster Criminal Defense Lawyers and a leading criminal trial attorney in Texas. Board Certified in Criminal Law since 2013 and Criminal Appeals since 2024, he is among a select group of attorneys recognized for advanced skill in trial and appellate practice. Cody has defended clients in hundreds of criminal cases, ranging from DWI to complex federal charges.
Cody earned his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law, where he was Vice-Chair of the Board of Barristers and received multiple awards for trial advocacy, including the Order of Barristers. At the same time, he completed an M.B.A. from Texas Tech University, gaining skills in data analysis, finance, and team leadership. He also holds a B.A. in Speech Communication from Baylor University, where he was named a Bullock Scholar.
Cody began his career as a prosecutor before transitioning to defense work. He served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Northern District of Texas, handling more federal jury trials than many attorneys manage in a career. He has argued appeals before the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, the Fifth Circuit, and other appellate courts. Today, he brings more than 15 years of experience to clients facing serious charges in both state and federal courts.
Alongside his trial practice, Cody Cofer is an adjunct professor at Texas A&M University School of Law, teaching future lawyers the practice of criminal law. He is also active in professional organizations, serving on the boards of the Tarrant County Bar Foundation and the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. His career reflects both technical excellence and an unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of the accused.
