Chris Trotter

Chris Trotter is an Oregon criminal defense attorney and the founder of Trotter Law, LLC in Hillsboro. He represents clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges throughout Portland, Hillsboro, Beaverton, Salem, and surrounding communities. His practice includes DUI defense, homicide, major felonies, domestic violence, assault, theft, fraud, drug offenses, sex crimes, gun-related matters, restraining orders, probation violations, and expungements. He also assists clients seeking to restore gun rights or challenge concealed-carry permit denials.

Chris earned his B.A. in Political Science from Brigham Young University – Idaho in 2010 and his J.D. from Willamette University School of Law in 2013. He was admitted to practice law in Oregon in 2013. His education provided the legal foundation for a career focused on courtroom advocacy, criminal procedure, and protecting the constitutional rights of people accused of crimes.

Chris previously spent two years working in the criminal prosecution unit of the Washington County District Attorney’s Office. This experience gave him insight into how prosecutors evaluate evidence, prepare witnesses, negotiate cases, and develop trial strategies. As both a former prosecutor and defense lawyer, he has litigated hundreds of cases in Oregon circuit and municipal courts. His experience includes jury trials, bench trials, motion hearings, arraignments, plea proceedings, pretrial conferences, and probation violation hearings.

Chris Trotter has secured not-guilty verdicts in felony and misdemeanor trials and develops an individualized defense strategy for each client. He is fluent in Spanish and represents many Spanish-speaking clients directly without relying on an interpreter. Chris was selected to Oregon Rising Stars each year from 2017 through 2025 and has been recognized in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America since 2023.
