Charles Ramsay is a Minnesota DWI and criminal defense attorney who has focused his career on defending clients charged with alcohol-related driving offenses and other criminal matters. He has served as a founding partner since 1995, after an honorable discharge from the US Army. His practice includes DWI defense, criminal defense, appeals, breath testing challenges, and serious criminal cases requiring careful trial preparation and strong courtroom advocacy.
Ramsay earned a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He received a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and completed the Robert F. Borkenstein Course on Alcohol and Highway Safety at Indiana University. His education and advanced scientific training support his work in DWI defense, especially cases involving breath, blood, and urine testing, field sobriety issues, and forensic evidence.
Ramsay has tried a substantial number of DWI cases and represented clients in approximately 75 cases before the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Minnesota Supreme Court. His work includes challenges involving breath testing equipment, scientific reliability, eyewitness identification, false confessions, and alternative suspect evidence. He has also handled high-stakes criminal matters, including serious felony cases, while keeping DWI defense as a central focus of his practice.
Charles Ramsay is an ABA Board-Certified DWI specialist and holds the American Chemical Society’s Forensic Lawyer-Scientist certification. He is also a faculty member of the National College for DUI Defense and a founding member of the DUI Defense Lawyers Association. His recognition includes multiple Super Lawyers selections and Minnesota Lawyer Attorney of the Year honors.
