Jacob Birkholz

Jacob Birkholz is an owner and lead attorney who represents clients in criminal defense, family law, civil litigation, and appellate matters. He handles cases involving DWI, drug offenses, assault, theft, criminal sexual conduct, divorce, custody, and complex disputes. His practice serves clients across Southern Minnesota and focuses on careful preparation, strong courtroom advocacy, and practical guidance during important legal challenges.

Jacob earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in 2005. He received an academic scholarship, made the Dean’s List, and earned the Dean’s Award in Estate Planning and Bankruptcy. He also graduated magna cum laude from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a B.S. in Chemistry in 2002, where he received the Ford Scholarship as the top chemistry student.

Jacob has tried more than 43 criminal jury trials to verdict and has handled criminal bench trials, including a case later decided by the Minnesota Supreme Court. His appellate experience includes more than 100 cases before the Minnesota Court of Appeals involving criminal defense, family law, civil litigation, and administrative law. He also previously served as a judicial law clerk, giving him insight into court procedure and judicial decision-making.

Jacob Birkholz is a Board-Certified Criminal Law Specialist through the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Criminal Law Certification Board. He is also a member of the Minnesota Society for Criminal Justice, the Iowa State Bar Association, and the Minnesota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. His work reflects a combination of trial experience, appellate skill, and client-focused representation for people facing serious legal problems.
