Charles N. Anderson, Jr. is a seasoned bankruptcy and creditors’ rights attorney with over 35 years of experience handling complex financial transactions and litigation. As the head of the Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Group at Ellis & Winters, he provides strategic legal counsel to financial institutions, lenders, and developers. His broad expertise includes commercial real estate, debt finance, loan workouts, and restructuring transactions. He is known for his client-first approach, ensuring efficient and effective legal solutions while minimizing structural obstacles.
Charles focuses on creditors’ rights, representing secured lenders in loan workouts, restructuring, forbearance agreements, and real estate collateral recovery. He has handled significant Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, including representing a secured creditor with over $120 million in real estate claims and a lender with over $32 million in acquisition and development loans. He has also successfully defended lender liability claims in state and federal courts.
Charles focuses on commercial real estate finance, representing banks, insurance companies, and developers in complex real estate–secured lending transactions. He brings extensive experience in the acquisition, disposition, and development of hotels, office buildings, retail centers, and affordable housing projects. Financial institutions also rely on him for strategic guidance in marketing and selling real estate–owned (REO) assets.
Charles holds a Juris Doctor with High Honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and the North Carolina Law Review. He earned his B.A. with Honors from North Carolina State University. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina, including the U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts for the state’s Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts.
