Charles J. Brown III is a partner at Gellert, Scali, Busenkell & Brown LLC (GSBB Law) in Wilmington, Delaware. He concentrates his practice on commercial bankruptcy, real estate, business law, commercial litigation, and commercial collections. He has extensive experience representing trustees, receivers, creditors’ committees, debtors, and creditors in complex bankruptcy matters and high-stakes disputes.
Charles is a Wilmington native who earned his B.S.B.A. in Finance from the University of Delaware in 1988 and his J.D., cum laude, from Vermont Law School in 1993. He began his legal career clerking for the Honorable Dale Cathell of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and interning with the Honorable Denise Johnson of the Vermont Supreme Court. Before joining his current firm, he chaired the bankruptcy practice at a Wilmington litigation firm and managed a regional firm’s Delaware office.
Charles’s notable matters include defending over 100 preference defendants in the Oakwood Homes bankruptcy, representing unsecured creditors’ committees in large auto parts cases, and protecting maritime claims for Jones Act seamen, passengers, and longshoremen. In addition to his practice, he serves as an adjunct professor at Wilmington University, teaching in its business college.
Charles J. Brown III is an active member of the Delaware and Maryland State Bar Associations, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Delaware Bankruptcy Inns of Court. Deeply engaged in community service, he has served on local nonprofit boards and volunteers as a Tae Kwon Do instructor.
