Catherine Nathan

Catherine Nathan is a lawyer, certified executive coach, and former legal executive recruiter who advises senior in-house lawyers, law firm partners, and senior associates on career development. She helps lawyers address leadership, communication, management, interviewing, transition, and advancement challenges. She previously practiced at two Wall Street law firms before moving into legal recruiting. She later founded and led a major executive search practice focused on general counsel recruitment nationwide.

Catherine earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. She received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. She later completed Columbia University’s Coaching Certification Program and became a certified coach. She is licensed to administer NBI assessment tools. Her combined legal and coaching education supports her work helping attorneys evaluate professional challenges, strengthen leadership skills, and make informed career decisions with greater clarity and purpose.

Catherine spent six years practicing law as an associate with Chadbourne & Parke and Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler before entering legal recruiting. She later founded and led Spencer Stuart’s Legal, Compliance & Government Affairs practice, where she focused on recruiting general counsel for major corporations, universities, and nonprofit organizations. She placed legal leaders at organizations including 3M, Boeing, Medtronic, Pfizer, Procter & Gamble, and Yale University during her career.

Catherine Nathan is admitted to practice in New York, the District of Columbia, and before the US Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. She has volunteered with The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program, representing veterans in appeals. She is a member of the International Coaching Federation and the Association of Corporate Counsel coaching roster. Her background combines legal practice, executive search, coaching, teaching, and public service for lawyers navigating change.
