Catherine A. Gaul is president and managing partner of Ashby & Geddes, P.A. and a director in its corporate and commercial litigation groups. She represents clients in complex business law disputes before Delaware’s Court of Chancery and Superior Court’s Complex Commercial Litigation Division. She serves as lead counsel or Delaware counsel in matters involving corporate governance, contracts, transactions, and fiduciary obligations. She also handles commercial litigation in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.
Ms. Gaul earned her B.A., cum laude, from Dartmouth College in 1999, studying Chemistry and Earth Sciences. She received her J.D., cum laude, from Boston College Law School in 2002. She gained admission to the Delaware Bar in 2002. She is admitted before the United States District Court for the District of Delaware and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ms. Gaul has successfully argued appeals before the Delaware Supreme Court. She has also played a key role in a successful appeal before the Third Circuit. She conducts internal investigations for special committees and advises clients facing high-stakes corporate and commercial conflicts. Her experience covers litigation strategy, legal analysis, briefing, discovery, trial preparation, and appellate advocacy. She helps national counsel navigate Delaware law, court procedures, and judicial expectations.
Catherine A. Gaul brings practical judgment, responsiveness, and strategic leadership to demanding corporate disputes. She has been ranked by Chambers USA in the Chancery category since 2017. She was again recognized as a Leading Individual for Chancery in the 2025 edition. She serves on the Delaware Court of Chancery Rules Advisory Committee and belongs to the Delaware State Bar Association.
