Cary Devorsetz

Cary Devorsetz is a principal attorney and co-founder who represents organizations and individuals in real estate, employment, and business matters. Based in Washington, D.C., he serves community associations, including condominium associations, homeowners associations, and cooperatives, as well as retailers, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses. Acting as outside general counsel, he provides practical guidance on day-to-day operations, governance, regulatory compliance, and legal disputes.

Devorsetz earned his J.D. from American University Washington College of Law and his B.A., with honors, from Hamilton College. His education supports a practice that requires careful interpretation of governing documents, statutes, and organizational requirements. He is admitted in the District of Columbia and New York, as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Cary’s experience includes forming businesses, advising organizations on internal procedures and legal obligations, and counseling employers on workplace matters, key employee agreements, and litigation avoidance strategies. In his community associations practice, Devorsetz interprets and drafts condominium instruments and rules and assists with disputes involving associations, property owners, and unpaid assessments. Before establishing his current practice, he handled employment, corporate, customs, and firearms law in Washington, D.C.

Cary Devorsetz has held leadership roles with the Community Associations Institute and the Federal Bar Association’s District of Columbia Chapter, including twice serving as chapter president. He has also contributed to the DC Bar’s Real Estate Practice Manual, presented on community association and corporate law topics, and performed pro bono work for individuals and charities. The Community Associations Institute named him its District of Columbia Advocate of the Year in 2019 and 2023.
