Carlos Tavares

Carlos Tavares is a respected family law attorney and Partner at Antonyan Miranda, LLP. With more than twenty years of legal experience, he has built a strong reputation for handling complex family law matters. As a Certified Family Law Specialist, he represents clients in cases involving divorce, child custody, visitation, domestic violence restraining orders, contempt actions, and post-judgment enforcement. He is also experienced in high-net-worth family law cases that require detailed financial analysis and asset tracing. Throughout his career, he has worked to help individuals and families navigate difficult legal challenges while protecting their rights and interests.

Mr. Tavares earned his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2002. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 2002 and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. His legal education and professional qualifications have provided a strong foundation for his successful career in litigation and family law.

Mr. Tavares began his legal career handling business and construction defect litigation before focusing exclusively on family law. He later became a founding partner of Keamy Tavares & Associates, where he managed both the family law and litigation divisions. His broad litigation background allows him to approach cases strategically and effectively, especially when disputes involve complicated legal and financial issues.

Mr. Tavares involves a significant part of the practice in assisting military families. He has extensive knowledge of military-related family law matters, including military pensions, survivor benefit plans, jurisdiction issues, the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), and the Lautenberg Act.

Carlos Tavares has also shared his knowledge through legal education programs, serving as a guest lecturer and instructor for military organizations. His commitment to professional excellence was recognized when he received Antonyan Miranda’s Golden Sledgehammer Award for excellence in family law litigation in 2019. He is also an active member of the San Diego County Bar Association and the San Diego Family Law Bar Association.
