Bryant S. Banes

Bryant S. Banes is the managing partner of Neel, Hooper & Banes, P.C. in Houston, a position he has held since September 2006. He advises and represents employers on labor and employment law, government contracts, wage disputes, and compliance issues. His work includes litigation under the Fair Labor Standards Act, federal procurement disputes, and matters involving workplace and contract obligations. He represents clients before courts, administrative boards, and government agencies.

Bryant earned a Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University in 1987 and a J.D. from Louisiana State University in 1990. He later served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps and worked as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice. His legal and military training provided the foundation for a career addressing federal procurement, employment disputes, and government litigation. He has also taught as an adjunct professor in legal and military education programs.

Bryant handled complex contract litigation as an Army lawyer and later prosecuted or defended multimillion-dollar government contract and employment claims at the Department of Justice from 1998 to 2002. His current practice covers bid protests, contract performance, audits, investigations, teaming arrangements, wage and hour litigation, and labor-management relations. He has represented clients in appeals and federal proceedings and served in Iraq as chief of procurement and fiscal law and legal adviser to the chief engineer.

Bryant S. Banes is board certified in Labor and Employment Law. He received recognition from Chambers USA for labor and employment work involving government contracts and was named a BTI Client Service All-Star in 2013. His Army service included the Bronze Star Medal, and he retired as a lieutenant colonel. He brings together federal litigation, military procurement, and employer-side counsel to help organizations understand contractual obligations and respond to legal and regulatory disputes.
