Brian Vicente

Brian Vicente is the Founding Partner at Vicente LLP, focusing on cannabis law, licensing, and policy. He has helped marijuana businesses obtain state and local licenses since the start of the regulated industry. He also advises government officials on building regulated cannabis markets across the United States and worldwide.

Brian earned his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he received a full merit scholarship, and his B.A. from Grinnell College. During law school, he clerked for Senior U.S. District Judge John L. Kane, gaining early experience in legal research and public policy.

Brian played a key role in shaping cannabis law, serving as a lead drafter of Colorado’s Amendment 64 and co directing the campaign supporting it. He also chaired the Committee for Responsible Regulation, helping implement statewide excise and sales taxes on adult use marijuana in Colorado.

Brian has advised national, state, and local leaders on cannabis policy, including work in Uruguay. He served on Governor Jared Polis’s transition team and contributed to economic development efforts. His work includes advocacy, litigation, and regulatory guidance that helped establish early cannabis markets.

Brian is active in leadership roles, serving as treasurer of the Marijuana Policy Project and president of the National Hispanic Cannabis Council. He has also held roles with the National Cannabis Industry Association, Sensible Colorado, and other organizations focused on policy, advocacy, and community impact.

Brian has received many awards, including recognition by Chambers and Partners USA, Best Lawyers from 2021 to 2026, and Law360 Cannabis MVP in 2022. He has also been named among top cannabis lawyers and influential leaders by multiple organizations and publications over many years.
