Brian Steel has championed criminal defense since 1991, earning a reputation for his unwavering advocacy and courtroom mastery. He has defended clients in complex and high-stakes cases across Georgia and 15 other states, using innovative legal strategies and a relentless work ethic. His notable victories in both trial and appellate courts have established him as a formidable force in criminal law.

Brian Steel holds a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan (1987) and earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1990. He began his career as an Assistant Public Defender in Fulton County before rising through private practice to become a partner at The Steel Law Firm, P.C., where he has practiced since 1997.

Steel’s legal work spans a broad spectrum of federal and state criminal matters, including RICO, wire fraud, immigration fraud, murder, and sexual offenses. He has represented high-profile professionals—doctors, FBI agents, judges—as well as vulnerable clients like juveniles and indigent defendants. In death penalty cases, his advocacy has even resulted in full case dismissals due to proven innocence.

Brian Steel’s excellence has earned him consistent accolades: Georgia Super Lawyer since 2004, Legal Elite by Georgia Trend since 2003, and inclusion in Billboard’s 2023 Top Music Lawyers list. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. He also serves as a Life Member and former committee leader within the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

A frequent speaker at CLE seminars, Steel shares expertise on appellate arguments, courtroom presence, cross-examinations, and professionalism. With around 300 published appellate opinions and approximately 45 reversals, his influence extends beyond representation, helping shape legal practice and mentoring the next generation of defense attorneys.
