Brian Flakne

Brian Flakne is a seasoned Minnesota attorney with more than four decades of legal experience. Since beginning his legal career in 1981, he has focused on family law, criminal defense, real estate development, and complex civil litigation. His diverse legal background includes class actions, business planning, and state and federal trial work.

Brian earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1981, after completing his undergraduate studies at Shattuck-St. Mary’s and the University of Minnesota. His education laid a strong foundation for a career built on integrity, client service, and courtroom success.

Brian has successfully represented clients in the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Minnesota Supreme Court and has served as counsel in three winning class action lawsuits. His role as General Counsel for Lupe Development Partners, LLC, has earned him high recognition, including the 2023 In-House Counsel of the Year award. In this capacity, he directs legal matters related to contract negotiation, environmental review, financial and insurance underwriting, and regulatory compliance.

Brian Flakne is a leading real estate and development attorney whose legal expertise has helped deliver more than 1,500 residential units across Minneapolis and St. Paul. His work includes notable multifamily projects such as Stone Arch Apartments, Mill City Quarter, and The Flats at Malcolm Yards. Many of these developments expand affordable housing options, leveraging tax credit programs to serve historically underserved communities in the Twin Cities.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Brian has held leadership roles in community and cultural organizations. He is a past board member of the Minnesota Council for Arts Education and the Bloomington Fine Arts Council, and a trustee emeritus of Shattuck-St. Mary’s. He also remains active in civic life, cultural fellowship clubs, and local sports initiatives.
