About
Brett C. Booth is Of Counsel in Stoel Rives’ Technology & Intellectual Property group in Salt Lake City. His practice focuses on patent law, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications, patent research and opinions, portfolio analysis, licensing, and pre-litigation analysis. He advises on patentability, freedom to operate, and validity questions and helps clients evaluate design-around strategies for technologies that could implicate existing patent rights.
Booth earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Utah in 2012. He earned an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Brigham Young University in 2007 and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah in 2005. His engineering education provides a technical foundation for patent work involving sophisticated electronics, software, communications systems, semiconductor technology, and other engineering-intensive inventions.
Booth’s technical focus includes electrical and computer engineering, semiconductors, software, wireless technology, digital signal processing, control systems, and digital and analog electronics. Before practicing law, he worked in technical roles with the University of Utah Software Development Center and Flexpoint Sensor Systems and interned with L-3 Communications. That engineering experience supports his ability to understand inventions and communicate technical concepts in patent matters.
Brett C. Booth is admitted in Utah and before the US Patent and Trademark Office. His practice combines legal analysis with hands-on engineering knowledge to help clients protect and evaluate technology assets. He assists with patent prosecution, portfolio strategy, licensing, validity and freedom-to-operate questions, and early dispute analysis, giving technology businesses and inventors practical guidance across the patent lifecycle.
