Brendan E. Clark is a partner in Cleveland who focuses on intellectual property and technology law. He helps clients manage intangible assets through prosecution, disputes, and transactions. Brendan earned his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2009 and his B.S. in General Engineering from the University of Illinois in 2006. He also completed the U.S. Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 2023. This training supports work on complex technical matters for clients.
Brendan has represented clients in patent infringement, trade secret, trademark, copyright, cybersquatting, and unfair competition matters. His litigation work has involved enterprise content management software, trading screens, roofing product patents, towing products, porous paving, electronic cigarettes, building materials, waste derived fuel, e-commerce, and technology areas before courts and the TTAB.
Brendan advises on intellectual property issues in mergers and acquisitions ranging from $2 million to $3 billion. He has led diligence for major acquisitions, software deals, brand portfolio purchases, specialty chemical transactions, and carve-out work. He also prepares licensing, joint development, contractor, and technology agreements that protect valuable client assets.
Brendan has been recommended by The Legal 500 United States for Intellectual Property: Patents: Prosecution, including re-examination and post-grant proceedings. IAM Patent 1000 also recommended him in Ohio. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal for service.
