Before entering the legal profession, he worked as a petroleum landman in eastern Montana and northwest North Dakota. In that role, he negotiated leases, researched title, and worked directly with landowners and energy companies, gaining practical experience with contracts, real estate interests, property rights, and complex business negotiations and diligence.

After law school, Brant served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Leslie Halligan in Missoula County District Court and the Honorable Robert Allison in Flathead County District Court. These clerkships strengthened his litigation skills, legal writing, courtroom insight, and understanding of how judges evaluate civil disputes and strategy.
