Kellen B. Kellen’s education includes a Bachelor of Science from South Dakota State University, earned in 2008, and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Dakota, earned in 2012. He has also completed various military courses and schools through the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School. He began his legal career as a clerk for South Dakota’s Fifth Judicial Circuit from 2012 to 2013. He then served as an associate at Bennett, Main & Gubbrud, P.C., before becoming a partner at Bennett Main Gubbrud & Willert, P.C., in 2017, while building strong litigation skills.

Licensed to practice in South Dakota, Colorado, and Wyoming, Kellen brings a multi-jurisdictional perspective to client service. In family law, he assists with custody, child support, divorce, domestic relations, and mediation, helping clients pursue workable solutions while protecting their rights during emotionally and legally challenging transitions with professionalism and care. His real estate and municipal law work supports clients with transactions, land-use concerns, local government issues, and related disputes. He also advises on estate planning, probate, wills, powers of attorney, guardianships, conservatorships, and business matters, providing clients with structured legal options for long-term planning.

Since 2012, Kellen B. Willert has also served as an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps with the South Dakota Army National Guard. This military legal background strengthens his ability to analyze regulations, advise under pressure, and represent clients whose matters involve service-related, administrative, or complex legal considerations in demanding settings. His noted matters include reported and unreported appeals before the South Dakota Supreme Court, including Bryant v. Bryant, Bohn v. Bueno, Nelson-related estate litigation, Bingham Farms Trust, Olson, In re Lac Minerals, Niemi, and Holsti.
