About
Barry L. Groce is a Senior Partner at McEwen Gisvold LLP and represents clients ranging from small businesses and individuals to national corporations. His practice focuses on commercial leasing, document drafting, and the purchase and sale of businesses and real property. With extensive experience in real estate and business transactions, Barry regularly advises both landlords and tenants on drafting, interpreting, and enforcing complex commercial leases for Class A office buildings and retail shopping centers across the United States.
Barry earned his B.A. and Master of Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley, and his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley in 1980. He began his legal career as Corporate Counsel for Union Pacific Railroad Company before moving into private practice. Barry joined McEwen Gisvold LLP in 1993, became a partner in 1995, and served as the firm’s managing partner from 2004 to 2015.
In addition to leasing work, Barry assists property owners and managers with lease interpretation, reviewing agreements related to property ownership, and providing strategic guidance on the enforcement of leases and contracts. His practice also includes the acquisition and sale of real estate and businesses, giving clients a well-rounded perspective backed by decades of industry insight.
Barry’s prior experience as a litigator handling commercial disputes, lease conflicts, and contract claims in state and federal courts gives him a practical, solutions-focused approach to transactional work. He is admitted to practice in Oregon and Washington and remains an active member of the Oregon State, Washington State, and Multnomah County Bar Associations.
