Babak earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he graduated at the top of his class. He then received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Houston Law Center, where he also served as an article editor for the Houston Business & Tax Law Journal.
With decades of experience, Babak has prosecuted patents in areas such as analog and digital circuits, software, internet technologies, semiconductors, mechanical systems, communications, and financial services. He has also represented clients in patent reexaminations and licensing negotiations and conducted extensive studies on patent validity, enforceability, and infringement.
Prior to joining NovoTech, Babak held the position of Partner at McDermott Will & Emery and served as an Associate at Fish & Richardson, both in Washington, D.C. His in-house counsel experience includes working at Panasonic Corporation in Osaka, Japan. He has also provided pro bono legal support at the Landlord-Tenant Resource Center in Washington, D.C. Earlier in his career, Babak worked as a radio frequency technician, which strengthened his practical technical background.
Babak Akhlaghi is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. A certified mediator and fluent in both English and Farsi, he has been recognized as a Super Lawyer since 2019.
