Andrew B. Howie

Andrew B. Howie is a shareholder at Shindler, Anderson, Goplerud & Weese P.C. in West Des Moines, Iowa. His practice focuses on Appeals, Custody, Family Law, and Visitation. He represents clients in family disputes and appellate proceedings involving decisions that affect their rights and future. His work combines trial court representation in family matters with substantial experience before Iowa and federal appellate courts.

Andrew earned a B.A. in Political Science from Wartburg College in 1993. He received a J.D. with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1996 and served on the Moot Court Board. Following graduation, he clerked in Iowa Judicial District 8(B) in Burlington during 1996 and 1997. That court experience preceded his legal practice in Polk County and his focus on appeals.

Andrew has appeared in more than 300 rulings from federal and Iowa appellate courts, alongside hundreds of family law cases. His representative matters include In re Marriage of Pazhoor and In re Marriage of Sisson. He authored the Iowa State Bar Association’s Family Law Manual in multiple editions and Iowa Family Law with Forms, published in 2023, contributing practical resources for lawyers handling family matters.

Andrew B. Howie is a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He is a Board Certified Advocate in Family Law through the National Board of Trial Advocacy. His professional service includes past leadership of the Iowa State Bar Association’s family law and appellate practice groups. He emphasizes ethical advocacy and seeking common ground while pursuing his clients’ interests.
