Andrew Alexander

Andrew Alexander is a Partner at Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP, where he plays a key role in the firm’s Intellectual Property group. Based in Cleveland, he focuses his practice on IP litigation, licensing, and strategic counseling, with particular emphasis on the pharmaceutical, life sciences, and chemical industries. His scientific background and legal experience allow him to guide clients through highly technical intellectual property matters.

Alexander earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 2013. He also holds a Master of Arts in Philosophy from Western Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science in both Biology and Philosophy from Ashland University. His academic credentials reflect a strong interdisciplinary foundation essential to navigating the complex intersection of science and law.

Before practicing law, Andrew worked as a laboratory analyst at a major pharmaceutical company. This hands-on experience in the industry informs his approach to patent and IP litigation, especially for clients in regulated scientific fields. He is a registered patent attorney and regularly represents patent owners before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, in federal district courts, and on appeal.

Since joining Calfee in 2015, Andrew has built a strong reputation as a trusted intellectual property attorney, advising clients on complex patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret disputes. Elevated to Partner in 2023, he brings significant IP litigation experience from his prior role as an Associate at Baker & Hostetler LLP. Andrew has represented clients in high-stakes matters before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal and Seventh Circuits.
