About
Alexis Turner-Lafving is an immigration attorney at Haynes Novick Kohn in Washington, D.C., where she handles a wide spectrum of immigration matters with a focus on business immigration and litigation. Her experience spans nonimmigrant visas, removal defense, and high-level legal writing for federal courts and immigration judges.
Alexis earned her Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2023. During law school, she served as Managing Editor of the Maryland Journal of International Law and earned the CALI Award for excellence in Corporate Immigration Law. She holds a B.A. in Political Science from Virginia Wesleyan College.
Alexis’ legal career began in 2018 and includes service as an Attorney Advisor at Sterling Immigration Court through the DOJ Honors Program. There, Alexis assisted judges by drafting judicial decisions, gaining valuable insight into courtroom procedures and legal reasoning that now informs her practice.
Alexis also brings private sector experience, having clerked at an Am Law 200 firm where she handled E, L, H-1B, TN, and O-1A visa cases for professionals with extraordinary ability. She previously worked as a paralegal supporting employment-based immigrant visa petitions at a boutique immigration law firm in Charlotte, North Carolina.
As a student attorney, Alexis participated in the Immigration and Federal Appellate Immigration Clinics at the Chacón Center for Immigrant Justice. Under supervision, she represented clients before the Arlington Asylum Office and in federal courts, including the Second Circuit and U.S. District Court for D.C.
Now a member of the Maryland Bar and the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Alexis Turner-Lafving applies her litigation knowledge and advocacy skills to achieve favorable results for her clients in both employment and humanitarian immigration matters.
