Alexandra A.E. Shapiro is nationally recognized for her expertise in appellate advocacy and white collar defense. With decades of courtroom experience, she has achieved significant wins in both criminal and civil appeals. Her work includes multiple U.S. Supreme Court victories and appellate reversals that have shaped the interpretation of federal law.
Alexandra earned her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude with Honors in History, from Williams College in 1986 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law in 1991, graduating first in her class. At Columbia, she received the John Ordronaux Prize and served as Articles Editor of the Columbia Law Review.
Alexandra has argued and won landmark cases such as Ciminelli v. United States, Percoco v. United States, and Salman v. United States, the first insider trading case before the Supreme Court in two decades. She has secured acquittals and new trials in multiple Second Circuit appeals, representing high-profile clients from Wall Street to public office.
Alexandra’s extensive experience includes roles as Assistant U.S. Attorney and Deputy Chief Appellate Attorney in the Southern District of New York, as well as Attorney-Adviser in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel. She also previously served as a partner at a major international law firm.
Alexandra A.E. Shapiro was President of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers and received the Ostrow Award for defending liberty and individual rights. In 2022, she authored Presumed Guilty, a novel about a wrongful prosecution, which earned praise from legal and mainstream publications alike.
