Alex Spiro is a partner in the New York office and Co-Chair of the Investigations, Government Enforcement & White Collar Defense Practice. Known for his dynamic courtroom presence, he has tried over 50 cases to verdict, achieving notable victories in federal and state courts. His global litigation experience spans numerous complex disputes and legal domains.
Mr. Spiro earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology from Tufts University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He also received honors such as the Albert Imlah writing and ACC Northeast Ethics Lawyering awards. His academic foundation informs his strategic approach to complex litigation and investigations.
Mr. Spiro’s legal career began in public service as a Manhattan prosecutor. He was instrumental in convicting serial killers Rodney Alcala and Travis Woods. Additionally, he collaborated with the Conviction Integrity Unit on wrongful conviction investigations, showcasing his commitment to justice and reform.
Mr. Spiro’s practice encompasses white collar defense, regulatory matters, securities litigation, defamation, intellectual property, and more. He has led high-stakes trials and investigations across the U.S. and Europe, often handling intricate financial and legal issues on behalf of corporations and individuals alike.
Alex Spiro extends his influence through teaching and advocacy. He serves on the faculty of Harvard’s Trial Advocacy Program, lectures at Harvard Law School, and chairs The Fair Punishment Project. As Counsel to the Reform Alliance, he lends his voice to the fight for meaningful criminal justice reform, a thread that runs through everything he does, both inside and outside the law.
