About
Adam J. Bruno is a founding partner at Bay State IP and a seasoned intellectual property attorney with nearly two decades of experience in patent, trademark, and copyright law. Based in Boston, he advises clients across diverse industries—including life sciences, engineering, technology, and consumer products—on securing, managing, and enforcing their intellectual property rights. His practice emphasizes the preparation, filing, and prosecution of U.S. and international patent and trademark applications, as well as strategic counseling tailored to both startups and established companies.
Adam earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. He holds a Master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Tufts University and a Bachelor’s degree in the same field from Vanderbilt University. His strong scientific background enhances his ability to represent clients in complex patent matters, especially within the biotechnology and life sciences sectors.
In addition to prosecution, Adam provides legal counsel on patentability, infringement risk, and post-grant proceedings. He conducts examiner interviews, manages global IP portfolios, and supports litigation and licensing efforts. Adam’s trademark practice includes everything from clearance searches to federal applications and brand enforcement, helping clients maintain strong and defensible brand identities.
Before founding Bay State IP, Adam worked at a Boston boutique IP law firm where he managed both U.S. and foreign IP dockets. His blend of large-scale and hands-on experience enables him to serve a broad range of clients with precision and efficiency.
Adam J. Bruno has been recognized as a Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2014 to 2020, a distinction awarded to only 2.5% of attorneys in the state. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. A member of several leading professional associations, Adam continues to help inventors and businesses navigate the IP landscape and safeguard their innovations in a global marketplace.
