William J. Factor

William J. Factor is a seasoned bankruptcy attorney and founding partner of Law Office of William J. Factor, Ltd, a Chicago-based law firm focused on representing financially distressed individuals and businesses. With a legal career that spans over three decades, Mr. Factor has deep expertise in both commercial and consumer bankruptcy, litigation, and creditor-debtor matters. His practice includes complex Chapter 7, 11, and 13 cases, trustee representation, and litigation in both state and federal courts.

Mr. Factor earned his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law, graduating with high honors and Order of the Coif. He was a staff member of the DePaul Law Review. He holds an A.B. from the University of Chicago.

Mr. Factor began his legal journey in the 1980s, initially working as a collections coordinator. This led him to DePaul’s evening law program, where his academic excellence earned him summer associate roles at Sidley Austin. He later joined the firm full-time, gaining foundational experience in commercial bankruptcy and litigation. In 1995, he joined Seyfarth Shaw LLP, where he became an equity partner and expanded his practice to include representation of Chapter 7 trustees.

In 2009, William J. Factor founded the Law Office of William J. Factor, Ltd. to deliver sophisticated commercial bankruptcy services to individuals and small businesses. Today, the firm features a dedicated team of full-time and of-counsel bankruptcy attorneys. The practice handles a broad range of bankruptcy and insolvency matters, including Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 filings, representation of bankruptcy trustees, creditor workouts, bankruptcy litigation, and asset recovery.

William J. Factor is admitted to practice in Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
