William H. Wellman

William H. Wellman is an experienced attorney who focuses his practice on criminal defense. With decades of courtroom experience, he represents individuals facing serious criminal charges and works to protect their rights at every stage of the legal process. Over the years, he has handled a wide range of cases and built a reputation for thorough preparation and strong advocacy. His background in both prosecution and defense gives him valuable insight into how criminal cases are investigated and tried.

Mr. Wellman earned his B.A. in Political Science from Miami University in 1974. He later earned his J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1979. Shortly after completing his legal education, he began practicing law in Idaho. His education provided a strong foundation in constitutional law, trial practice, and legal research, which continue to guide his work in complex criminal matters.

Throughout his career, Mr. Wellman has served in several important public roles. He has worked as Canyon County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and as Nampa City Prosecuting Attorney. He currently serves as Owyhee County Public Defender and as Special Deputy Attorney General for Child Support Enforcement. These roles have allowed him to handle cases from multiple perspectives and understand the legal system in depth. His experience helps him anticipate challenges and develop effective defense strategies for his clients.

In addition to his courtroom work, William H. Wellman has held leadership positions within the legal community. He served as Idaho State Bar Commissioner and later as President of the Idaho State Bar. He was also an original member of the Idaho Public Defense Commission. As a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, he is recognized for his skill and professionalism in trial advocacy.
