Matthew J. Baker is a seasoned attorney providing comprehensive legal services across Kentucky in both state and federal courts. His practice includes general civil litigation, criminal law, family law, and appeals. He has represented Fortune 100 companies, small businesses, and individuals in matters ranging from complex disputes to serious felony charges.

Matthew J. Baker earned his Major English from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky. He later obtained his J.D. in 1986 from Wake Forest University School of Law, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His academic background built a strong foundation in legal writing, analysis, and courtroom advocacy.

Matt began his legal career as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1987 to 1990. He then became a Partner at Cole, Moore & Baker from 1990 to 2002. In 2003, he served as a Judge on the Kentucky Court of Appeals, further strengthening his appellate insight.

Matt maintains an active trial and appellate practice. He has been counsel of record in over 250 appeals in state and federal courts. His work includes United States v. Boucher, which produced two published opinions from the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Matt’s criminal practice ranges from traffic matters to murder trials, while his civil litigation spans small claims to federal court disputes. He is admitted in Kentucky, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals 6th Circuit, and multiple federal courts, allowing him to handle complex, multi-level litigation.

Matthew J. Baker has been recognized as a Kentucky Super Lawyer 2013-Present. He continues to provide strategic, disciplined representation shaped by decades of courtroom and judicial experience.
