About

William Burton represents clients in complex corporate and commercial litigation, focusing on Delaware General Corporation Law, fiduciary duty disputes, and shareholder matters. He has advocated in the Court of Chancery, the Delaware Supreme Court, and federal courts, handling cases for corporations, executives, investors, and other business stakeholders.

William began his academic path at West Chester University, where he earned a B.A. in political science in 2011. He went on to Delaware Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 2015. While there, he served as internal managing editor for the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law, achieved recognition as a Widener Scholar, and was selected as a Wolcott Fellow for his outstanding performance.

William gained experience through several clerkships and fellowships. He clerked for the Hon. M. Jane Brady in the Delaware Superior Court. He also worked with the Hon. Chief Magistrate Judge Mary Pat Thynge in the Federal District Court for the District of Delaware. These roles built a strong foundation in Delaware’s legal system.

William’s practice has spanned high-value appraisal actions, special litigation committee reviews, hedge fund disputes in arbitration, and contract cases in both state and federal courts. His work also includes representing clients in matters tied to pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and national controversies, demonstrating his ability to manage sensitive and complex disputes.

William also provides representation in white collar matters, assisting clients with compliance reviews, internal investigations, and interactions with the U.S. Department of Justice. He remains committed to pro bono service, notably in prisoners’ rights litigation, including First Amendment cases.

William Burton has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch for multiple years. Licensed in Delaware and Pennsylvania, and admitted in several federal courts, he is also an active member of the Delaware Bar Association and the Richard S. Rodney American Inn of Court.
