Whitney Blair

Whitney Blair is a Shareholder at Kirton McConkie and a member of the Intellectual Property section. Her practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution in the United States and worldwide. She advises clients on patentability, inventorship, validity, and freedom-to-operate, while guiding strategic patent procurement and portfolio development.

Whitney earned a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2011, where she served on the Editorial Board of the Virginia Journal of Law & Technology and received a Pro Bono Service Award. She also earned an MPH from Boston University and a BS in Neuroscience from Brigham Young University.

Whitney focuses on medical device patent applications and has prosecuted hundreds to allowance. She works closely with in-house counsel to build global patent portfolios. She also has experience with licensing and counseling, helping clients protect and manage intellectual property assets across industries and markets.

Whitney previously managed the patent portfolio of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She oversaw patent prosecution for medical device, vaccine, diagnostic, and therapeutic technologies. She also negotiated intellectual property licenses with partners ranging from startup biotechnology companies to major corporations.

Whitney has received recognition for her work in intellectual property, including Legal 500 Salt Lake City Elite and Mountain States Super Lawyers Rising Star honors. She has also been named to Utah Legal Elite in Intellectual Property, reflecting her strong contributions to the field.
