W. H. “Billy” Nicholson, III

W. H. “Billy” Nicholson III is a South Carolina attorney with decades of experience representing individuals, businesses, and organizations in a wide range of legal matters. His practice includes personal injury, criminal defense, wrongful death, probate and estate matters, real estate, workers’ compensation, and general and corporate litigation. Known for his broad litigation background, he also has the distinction of being qualified as lead counsel in South Carolina death penalty cases, reflecting the specialized training and experience required to handle capital defense matters.

Mr. Nicholson graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Duke University in 1979 and received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1985, graduating with First Honors. During law school, he served on the South Carolina Law Review and was a member of the Moot Court Bar, demonstrating a strong academic foundation and commitment to legal advocacy.

Mr. Nicholson has combined extensive courtroom experience with leadership throughout his legal career, in the legal profession, and in his community. He served as President of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association (now the South Carolina Association for Justice) from 2002 to 2003. He has also held numerous leadership positions, including Board Member and General Counsel for the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, President of the Greenwood Parks and Trails Foundation, and Chairman of the Greenwood Parks Commission.

W. H. “Billy” Nicholson III has served as a board member for organizations such as Wesley Commons Retirement Community, the Greenwood Lander Performing Arts Program, and the Boards of Visitors for both Lander University and Piedmont Technical College. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Lander University and remains actively involved in civic and educational initiatives throughout Greenwood.
