Valerie Gotlib

Valerie Gotlib is an experienced attorney who focuses on criminal defense, regulatory enforcement, and business litigation. She has practiced in both federal and state courts since 2010. Valerie is Of Counsel at The Law Firm of César de Castro, P.C., where she uses her legal skills to help individuals and businesses facing serious legal issues. She has handled several federal and state cases, including criminal and civil jury trials. She has also been appointed as associate counsel in many Criminal Justice Act matters in New York’s Southern and Eastern Districts.

Valerie Gotlib is a graduate of Skidmore College. She then went on to receive her J.D. from Albany Law School, where she was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship every year she attended. During her time in law school, she worked at the New York Division of Criminal Justice Services. There, she took part in legal arbitrations and advised law enforcement officials across the state on criminal law and investigations.

Before joining her current firm, Valerie worked at Sher Tremonte LLP as an associate attorney. She also gained early courtroom experience at the Albany County District Attorney’s Office and worked alongside Judge Rachel Kretser in Albany Criminal Court.

Throughout her career, Valerie has helped clients in high-stakes situations. Her work includes defending a client who was acquitted of manslaughter, representing executives in a federal investigation under the Economic Espionage Act, and assisting a chief investment officer during a FINRA investigation tied to the Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme. She also led a civil case involving the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act.

Valerie Gotlib is admitted to practice in New York State and in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. She has been named a Rising Star in Super Lawyers from 2014 through 2017. She is active in professional groups such as the Federal Bar Council and the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
