Tyler J. Garrett

Tyler J. Garrett is a partner at Hathaway & Kunz in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He leads the firm’s appellate practice and co-leads its general litigation practice. Garrett represents clients in business disputes, construction litigation, corporate conflicts, trust cases, and appeals. He also works as a certified mediator, helping parties assess the legal and practical issues that can affect resolution before and after trial.

Garrett earned a J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 2006, graduating cum laude, and a B.S. in Business Administration from Montana State University in 2002. His legal training and business education support his work on commercial disputes and appellate questions. He later taught legal writing at the University of Wyoming College of Law, drawing on his experience with courts and written advocacy.

Garrett’s background includes practice at Jenner & Block in Chicago and Holland & Hart in Cheyenne. He clerked for Judge Terrence L. O’Brien of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and served as a staff attorney to two justices of the Wyoming Supreme Court. Garrett has handled appeals before the Wyoming Supreme Court and the Tenth Circuit, along with trial-level disputes involving construction, corporations, and trusts.

Garrett serves as Special Bar Counsel to the Wyoming State Bar, investigating and prosecuting attorney discipline matters, and chairs the Wyoming chapter of the ABA Council of Appellate Lawyers. He was selected as a Pegasus Scholar and has been recognized by Super Lawyers. His combined trial, appellate, and mediation experience helps clients evaluate options at each stage of a dispute.
