About

Tom Trenholm is an attorney at Drummond Woodsum in Portland who advises clients on labor, employment, and school law. He primarily works with schools, water districts, housing authorities, and municipalities. His employment practice includes collective bargaining agreements, employee leave policies, discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour issues, and employee misclassification. He also provides training and seminars for public school administrators and other clients managing recurring workplace and personnel issues.

Tom earned a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Maine School of Law in 2008 and a B.S., cum laude, from the University of New Hampshire in 2000. He also completed the Harvard Negotiation Project in 2014. His education supports a practice that combines legal analysis, negotiation, labor relations, workplace counseling, and litigation. That foundation is useful when clients need to evaluate personnel decisions, collective bargaining obligations, and possible dispute-resolution strategies.

Tom helps employers negotiate collective bargaining agreements, address leave and compensation issues, respond to discrimination and retaliation claims, and manage wrongful termination and classification concerns. He frequently presents to school superintendents and administrators and provides customized employment training. His practice also extends to farms, family businesses, and agribusinesses, where he assists with legal issues affecting operations. When disputes cannot be resolved through counseling or negotiation, he supports clients in litigation.

Tom Trenholm is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized through the Katahdin Counsel program for pro bono legal service in Maine. The Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project presented him with its Outstanding Service Award in 2013. He has also served as treasurer of Shalom House and secretary of the Maine Law Alumni Association. His practice combines employment counseling, labor relations, school law, training, and dispute resolution for public and private organizations.
