He interned with the Rhode Island Department of Administration in labor law, later served as in-house counsel for a medical organization, and worked as a litigation associate before opening his independent firm in 2012.
Sweet litigation background supports clients who need confident representation in contested family matters. With a substantial portion of his practice devoted to litigation, he helps clients evaluate their options, prepare for hearings, and pursue fair outcomes in matters involving parenting arrangements, financial support, and long-term family stability after separation through the court process. He was admitted to practice in Rhode Island in 2009 and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island in 2012. He is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association and participates in family law and criminal law bench bar committees statewide for professional discussions.
Timothy M. Sweet’s commitment to service remains an important part of his professional identity. Through pro bono work with organizations such as the ACLU, the Volunteer Lawyer Program, and Clean Water Action, he has helped expand access to legal support for individuals and groups in underserved communities facing challenging civil and constitutional issues.
