Tim Nay

Tim Nay is a respected elder law attorney and partner at Nay & Friedenberg LLC in Portland, Oregon. For decades, he has dedicated his career to helping clients plan for the future with clarity and compassion. He combines his extensive legal knowledge with a strong background in clinical social work, giving him a unique understanding of the challenges older adults and families face. Tim’s practice areas include elder law, estate planning, trust administration, Medicaid, special needs planning, wrongful death probate, and personal injury settlement planning.

Tim earned his B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Los Angeles in 1968, his M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Chapman University in 1973, and his M.S.W. in Clinical Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1977. He then earned his J.D. from Willamette University in 1984. Tim is licensed to practice law in Oregon and Washington and holds clinical social work licensure in Texas, Idaho, and Oregon.

Throughout his career, Tim Nay has been a trailblazer in elder law and advocacy. He is the founding president and a Fellow of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), a founding member and past secretary of the National Alliance of Medicare Set Aside Professionals, and the founding president of Guardian Partners. His work includes leading roles with the Alzheimer’s Association Oregon Chapter and the Oregon Gerontological Association. In 1997, he successfully challenged the “Granny Goes To Jail Law.”
