Thomas W. Epting

Thomas W. Epting is a Partner at Fox Rothschild LLP based in Greenville, SC. He focuses on corporate and business transactions involving intellectual property and technology transfers. He advises companies of all sizes on protecting, managing, licensing, and selling intellectual property across a wide range of industries.

Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University in 1982. He later earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1986, laying a strong foundation for his work in intellectual property and business law.

Thomas advises clients on patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. He helps protect intellectual property through licensing, enforcement, and litigation strategies. He works with businesses to manage risks and create value from their intellectual property assets in competitive and changing markets.

Thomas also has deep experience in federal government contracts and procurement matters. He handles GAO protests, bid protests, contractor claims, and compliance issues. He advises on the Federal Acquisition Regulation, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement, and other agency rules to help clients meet strict government requirements.

Thomas has a strong record of leadership and service. He was appointed in 2024 to the Greenville County Capital Projects Sales Tax Commission. He has served as Chairman of the Greenville Area Development Corporation and held leadership roles in several organizations supporting business and community development efforts.

Thomas has received many honors, including selection to the IP Stars list from 2017 through 2025 and Super Lawyers for Intellectual Property from 2021 through 2024. He has also been named Lawyer of the Year multiple times and recognized by Best Lawyers and Greenville Business Magazine.

Thomas W. Epting is admitted to practice in South Carolina and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a former Judge Advocate and retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, bringing discipline and insight to his legal practice.
