About
Thomas W. Coffey is a distinguished bankruptcy attorney and founder of Coffey Law LLC in Cleveland, Ohio. With over 30 years of experience, he is recognized for his expertise in bankruptcy and commercial law, representing clients across the United States.
Mr. Coffey graduated from Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1977. He earned a B.M. in Music from the Cincinnati College–Conservatory of Music in 1981. In 1987, he obtained his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where he developed a strong interest in commercial law.
Throughout his legal career, Mr. Coffey has led high‑stakes bankruptcy and restructuring matters, including Chapter 11 reorganizations for shopping centers, hotels, and international manufacturers. He has helped financially distressed businesses stabilize operations, reduce debt, and protect their long‑term value. Mr. Coffey also served as special counsel in a $2 billion bank holding company bankruptcy, where he played a key role in securing confirmation of a Chapter 11 plan.
In addition to his practice, Mr. Coffey has contributed to legal education as an adjunct professor. For 12 years, he taught secured transactions and commercial law at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, earning the Adjunct Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in 2001.
