Thomas M. Benjamin is a New Orleans partner who focuses on complex commercial litigation, class actions, intellectual property, and gaming law. He leads the firm’s Gaming Section and represents clients in trials, appeals, arbitrations, regulatory proceedings, and significant business disputes. His practice serves companies in real estate, finance, energy, manufacturing, transportation, construction, and gaming. He helps clients address commercial conflicts, licensing concerns, ownership issues, and transaction-related risks.
Benjamin earned his J.D. cum laude from Tulane University School of Law in 1987. He was elected to the Order of the Coif and served on the Moot Court Board. He received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983. His education strengthened the legal analysis, advocacy, and negotiation skills supporting his litigation, regulatory, and transactional work.
Benjamin handles disputes involving unfair trade practices, contracts, leases, partnerships, shareholders, securities fraud, oil and gas, products liability, construction, copyrights, and bankruptcy. His gaming experience includes acquisitions and sales of gaming assets, video poker operations, placement agreements, permitting, compliance, and regulatory matters. He has appeared before the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, Attorney General’s Office, and State Police. His work also includes litigation involving gaming companies, commercial agreements, and ownership disputes.

Best Lawyers named him New Orleans Lawyer of the Year for Securities and Capital Markets Law in 2019 and 2020. He holds an AV Preeminent peer rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
