Thomas J. Von Wald

Thomas J. Von Wald is a partner at Boyce Law Firm LLP in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with a litigation practice involving workers’ compensation, general liability, commercial disputes, and family law. His work also includes employment claims and workplace agreements. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants and helps clients evaluate claims, defend lawsuits, and prepare for court when negotiated solutions are not available.

Thomas earned a J.D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2004 and a B.S. from the University of South Dakota in 2001. Before starting private practice, he worked for three circuit judges in South Dakota’s First Judicial Circuit. His judicial experience provided early exposure to court procedure and the handling of contested legal issues across different types of cases.

Thomas joined Boyce in 2012 after more than six years with another Sioux Falls law firm. He has represented employers and insurers in workers’ compensation cases and handled employment agreement enforcement, discrimination allegations, and sexual harassment claims. His work also includes personal injury actions, construction and business disputes, medical malpractice defense, criminal cases, administrative hearings, and appeals before state and federal courts.

Thomas is a past president of the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association and has served on its board and continuing education and family law committees. He has received recognition from the association and a Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished Award. Thomas J.
