Joel H. Siegal

Joel H. Siegal is a California personal injury attorney who has spent more than 35 years representing people in claims against corporations, insurers, government bodies, and other powerful institutions. His work addresses serious injuries, wrongful death, sexual abuse, and misconduct that can leave individuals or families facing lasting harm. Joel brings a public-service perspective to plaintiff-side litigation and has handled matters in counties throughout California. Joel earned a B.A. from the State University of New York at Albany and completed coursework in industrial and labor relations at Cornell University, where he obtained a certificate. He later enrolled at California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1978 and entered the California legal profession in the early 1980s. His education in labor relations and law informed an interest in civil rights, workplace fairness, and the relationship between individuals and institutions. These subjects continue to shape the issues addressed in his litigation.

Joel worked with civil rights attorney Jerry Garchik on Liu v. Republic of China, a wrongful death matter concerning the killing of journalist Henry Liu that reached the United States Supreme Court in appellate proceedings. He also represented families affected by child sexual abuse allegations at the Presidio Army Base Day Care Center, working alongside other plaintiffs’ attorneys in the litigation. Additional matters involved abuse by a physician and by a member of the clergy, requiring sensitive investigation and proof of institutional responsibility.

Joel H. Siegal has also served as an adjunct professor at San Francisco Law School and has built a career around cases with significant personal and public consequences.
