Thomas F. Gleason

Thomas F. Gleason is a senior counsel and Albany attorney whose practice covers insurance, health care, commercial, and construction law. He handles commercial disputes and litigation-related issues, along with matters involving transactions and government law. His work draws on a deep knowledge of New York civil practice, particularly the rules that shape how cases move through the courts.

Thomas earned a B.A. from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1975 and a J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University in 1978. He was a member of the Albany Law Review during law school. He is admitted to practice in New York, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also taught insurance law at Albany Law School for more than 20 years.

Thomas has handled matters involving state government and public agencies. He served as counsel to Governor David A. Paterson in a dispute concerning the convening of the New York State Senate and represented the New York State Commission on Public Integrity in a dispute over a subpoena. Beyond his litigation work, he helped draft the manual and rules for an early New York court electronic filing program.

Thomas F. Gleason has written practice commentaries on electronic filing and the New York statutes governing structured settlements in tort and malpractice claims. He has also written for the New York Law Journal and presented on insurance, electronic filing, and computer evidence.
