About
Thomas D. Ritter focuses on complex family law matters, including divorce, alimony, child custody, and parenting plans. He has extensive experience at both the trial court and appellate levels. In addition, he provides trusted services as a guardian ad litem, mediator, and conciliator, helping families navigate difficult disputes with care.
Thomas earned a B.A. from Loyola Marymount University and an M.S. from the University of California, Davis. He later completed a Ph.D. at Purdue University. After this, he received his J.D. from Boston University Law School, where he served as Notes Editor for the Public Interest Law Journal.
Thomas volunteers with the Suffolk Early Resolution Volunteer program and the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project. He is a proud member of the Attorneys Representing Children program and Senior Partners for Justice. His work supports families who might not otherwise afford legal representation. He is also a founding member of the mediation team at the Comprehensive Family Evaluation Center at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Thomas has written chapters for leading legal publications and regularly presents at continuing legal education (CLE) programs. He has handled landmark family law cases, including Rodman v. Rodman and Pierce v. Pierce, which helped shape modern alimony law in Massachusetts. Thomas has also held key leadership roles in the Boston Bar Association’s Family Law Section, serving on its Steering Committee and co-chairing the Education Committee.
Thomas D. Ritter holds admission to practice law in Massachusetts and California. His professional associations include the Boston Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation, and Massachusetts Association of Guardian ad Litems. His dedication to family law earned him the recognition of “Rising Star” by Boston Magazine’s Super Lawyer Publication.
