Ted Smith

Ted Smith is a partner in the Real Estate Industry Group and the Mergers and Acquisitions practice, based in the Houston office. He advises private equity clients on complex real estate transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, financings, and restructurings involving large single assets and multi-asset portfolios across markets.

Ted earned his Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University. His academic background supports a practical understanding of real estate assets, financing structures, and technical issues affecting large-scale transactions.

Ted focuses his practice on joint venture formations, acquisitions of industrial, multifamily, office, and retail properties, and asset-level financings. He regularly advises clients on the formation of limited partnerships and limited liability companies, portfolio acquisitions, and transaction structuring for private equity investors nationwide.

Ted also has extensive experience representing national banks and private lenders. His work includes syndicated loans, securitized loans, mezzanine financings, and loan workouts. He advises on troubled-debt restructurings, note sales, receiverships, foreclosures, transfers in lieu of foreclosure, and short-sale arrangements.

Ted has been recognized for his work in real estate law. He received an individual ranking from Chambers USA for Real Estate in Georgia for multiple years. His experience spans multibillion-dollar financings and acquisitions involving assisted living, multifamily, and industrial portfolios across the United States.
