About

Tara N. Tighe is of counsel at Schertler Onorato Mead Sears & Manning in Washington, D.C. Her practice includes civil litigation, False Claims Act litigation and enforcement, appellate litigation, congressional investigations and hearings, and white-collar criminal defense and government investigations. A former Civil Assistant United States Attorney, she represents individuals and companies in federal and state matters and develops litigation strategies involving motions practice, discovery, investigations, and regulatory proceedings.

Tara earned her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and completed two undergraduate degrees through the University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration and School of Arts & Sciences. Her academic background supported an early focus on advocacy and writing. After law school, she was inducted into the Order of the Barristers, and she later served as a coach for the law school’s appellate moot court national competition team and as a mentor to first-year students.

As an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of West Virginia, Tara represented the United States and federal agencies in civil and criminal matters involving civil rights, employment discrimination, medical malpractice, tort claims, real estate, tax, bankruptcy, and criminal restitution. In private practice, she has handled suspension and debarment proceedings, internal investigations, whistleblower disclosures, congressional investigations, and False Claims Act matters for both relators and defendants. She has also argued before the Fourth Circuit.

Tara N. Tighe brings government and private-practice experience to complex disputes that require careful factual development and persuasive written advocacy. Her work includes dispositive motions, appellate briefing, electronic discovery, financial investigations, and courtroom presentations involving substantial documentary records. She also writes on developments in False Claims Act enforcement. By combining public-service experience with civil litigation and investigative work, she helps clients respond to government scrutiny and manage demanding disputes across multiple forums.
