Tara Jalali Malek

Tara Jalali Malek is a co-owner of Smith + Malek and an accomplished Idaho-licensed attorney. With experience in both civil and criminal law, Tara focuses her practice on business and commercial litigation in state and federal courts. She regularly represents clients in complex disputes, including contract matters, appeals, and employment-related claims. Her work reflects a deep commitment to legal excellence and access to justice.

Tara earned her J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law in 2011. She holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Arizona.

Before joining Smith + Malek, Tara served in several distinguished public legal roles. She worked as a Deputy Prosecutor in Kootenai County, a Special Assistant United States Attorney, and an Assistant United States Attorney in Boise. These roles gave her significant courtroom experience and a strong understanding of legal procedure in both trial and appellate courts.

Tara’s track record includes winning a federal court appeal that overturned an adverse jury verdict and securing the reinstatement of a wrongfully suspended college president. Known for her strategic, results-driven advocacy, Tara is dedicated to delivering justice-focused outcomes for every client she represents.

In addition to her litigation practice, Tara is a frequent legal commentator on national platforms and teaches trial advocacy at the University of Idaho College of Law. She also contributes to numerous boards supporting education, healthcare, and legal access across Idaho.
