Steven W. Dowding

Steven W. Dowding represents individuals in criminal defense, workers’ compensation, and personal injury matters. His practice places strong emphasis on defending people accused of driving under the influence. Through focused advocacy and courtroom work, he helps clients face serious legal challenges while protecting their rights and working toward fair outcomes.

Steven W. Dowding earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1988. Steven W. Dowding later earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1991. These academic experiences helped develop the communication, reasoning, and advocacy skills that support his legal practice.

Steve focuses his practice on criminal defense, workers’ compensation, and personal injury litigation. A significant part of his work involves defending citizens accused of DWI / DUI. His work in this area includes extensive training in DWI detection, standardized field sobriety testing, and gas chromatography used in impaired driving investigations.

Steve has remained active within the legal community and professional organizations. His involvement includes the Hall County Bar Association, Nebraska State Bar Association, DUI Defense Lawyers Association, Nebraska Association of Trial Attorneys, and Nebraska Criminal Defense Attorneys Association. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Nebraska Criminal Defense Attorneys Association.

Steve has contributed to professional education by writing and presenting on issues related to criminal defense and DWI investigations. His work includes the publication “A Right Way and a Wrong Way: The Meat and Potatoes of Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.” He has also presented programs such as “DWI Defense 2014 and Beyond” and “Current Issues in Criminal Defense.”

Steven W. Dowding has also been recognized for his legal work and community involvement. He was voted Best Attorney in Grand Island based on a survey conducted by the Grand Island Independent for the years 2014 – 2019. His career reflects dedication to defending the accused and helping clients navigate complex legal matters.
